I recently went to a talk on Mindfulness and Children that was great and I thought I would share some tidbits I learned from it.
We live in a world where there is constantly information being fed to us in all directions. We often don’t stop to be present in the moment. Taking time to be silent in the moment helps to refocus or brains and helps us learn to calm ourselves down. Focusing on our breathing and becoming aware of our surroundings helps our brains to use all the senses we have.
A great book that was recommended is called the Mindful Child By Susan Kaiser Greenland. Being mindful can help children to self regulate when their ‘engines’ are running in high or low. This is an important skill that children need to be taught as it is not something that is innate.
