5 Finger Breathing

Children are dealing with what is going on in the world in many different ways. If they hear any of the news, or see any families members struggling, children can sense this without even knowing what is wrong. Teaching children how to take a moment and think about where they are are right now is important to ground them in the present. Encouraging some time to do deep breathing is also very helpful. This is a great deep breathing technique. Using the diagram below, which was made by the calming corner. have your children use their own fingers to practice breathing. Encourage your child to do this slowly and thinking about their belly and chest expanding and then releasing all the air. If a child is getting anxious or stressed this is a good activity to make a part of your day.
